Ying & Yu
B wasn't so sure she wanted her best friend Ying to know anything about her, anymore. Ying could stay in the states forever. After all, B lived with Sam now who was the present. Sure, she felt she was stuck in the past... some days, but there was always Sam to bring her back to reality.
He wasn't an expert on anything. He kept failing the police exam. There were his bad habits too. He liked a poker game with the boys downstairs, more than a few times a week. He liked his rock and roll loud.
Maybe she liked beer just as much as he did. After all, it was a way to forget her troubles. Usually, they stayed up late at night. Just hanging out, watching TV. And she let him get close. Not like the others. Back when she felt she was everyone's servant and not good enough for anyone.
Now, she worried about Sam, a little. Wondering if he'd ever make the force. At least, she felt comfortable with him. He was a lot of laughs, but not in a silly way. Yes, she did like spending time with him, and she knew it was time to take off the couples ring around her neck. Maybe she would throw it in the ocean, forget her past completely.
As the days grew, she was a different kind of busy than before when she was a girl who cleaned up after everyone at the hall. Still, she missed those days not having someone to train with or to spar with. Still, it was like a calm dream to fall into someone's arms who didn't see her as an orphan nor a whirlwind girl.
