Out of the Blue

Not your typical fan fiction of Jimmy and Rose from Downton Abbey.
Jamie thought he'd fell in a hole. Perhaps a bottomless pit and he couldn't get out. He didn't really like it very much. He was dreaming he was sleeping. And someone touched him. They called him Jimmy. It was from a different time. Some place he'd never seen before. Not even on TV.

But he was alone, until someone touched him. It was such a horrible feeling being touched, that way. So foreign. Not quite right. And it was him.

When Jamie awoke he was in a sweat. Practically shaking. He couldn't remember who touched him. Exactly. He thought he did. He should know. It was someone he knew. But his hair was different and he was so cold.

Jamie shook his head. It was weird.

He rose up on his elbows on his bed. Honestly, it was his only refugee. Wanting to sleep. Other wise he was busy with a morning class, then running errands for his boss along with another job at night, waiting on tables. But even in his dreams it was work. Or so it felt.

But he was breathing easy now. Even if the dream made him a little nervous.

"What's going on?" Alfie didn't even know,  to knock but turned on the light. Jamie squeezed his eyes shut.

"Nothing? Why are you here?" Jamie squinted a look of disgust at his roommate. "Don't you ever knock?"

"But you were talking. I thought you were talking to someone." Alfie was naturally eating, as usual. A bowl of cereal.

Jamie looked at the clock it was half past two in the morning.

"What are you doing up?" Jamie wanted to know.

"Couldn't sleep. Blood sugar must be low." Alfie shrugged making himself at home in Jamie's room as he plopped on the end of the bed.

Jamie had a good mind to kick him in the arse, but he knew Alf would not get the hint. He was a bit dense, especially when it came to females, too. He was the one who wanted to be a chef.

"What time did you, get home?" Jamie fluffed one of his pillows. Actually, he beat his fist into it and propped it up to get comfortable.

"The usual." Alf shrugged as he crunched on the LIFE cereal.

"You're always the last to go home." Jamie crossed his arms. They worked at the same restaurant, but Jamie served food while Alf mainly did the prep work.

"Its not that big of a deal." Alf said as if he had nothing else going on. "I'm not into ladies, remember?"

Jamie rolled his eyes. Neither were actually looking to hook up with anyone. As it was, going out was expensive. In spite of working at a four star upscale restaurant didn't mean they were rolling in money.

"So what was this dream?" Alf avoided explaining what he might be up too. He took another spoonful of cereal. "Was I in this dream?"

"Don't think so." Frankly, Jamie didn't want to remember it. "Its just.." He fumed. "It was..there was a man..and..and.."

"Jamie, you gotta stop this homophobic craze of yours." Alf shook his head with a smile.

"It freaked me, OK?" Jamie gave him the eye. "You, weren't there. Its just..he..he makes me think of ..my boss."

"You, saying Mr. Ford, is in to you, mate?" Now Alf gave him a full grin.

"Shut it." Jamie squinted hard with disgust.

"Remember, the time you went to the whole foods place with me? And you wound up in a crying fit." Alf looked at him serious.

"So." Jamie frowned his mouth into a small circle.

"You might be well kept, if you, gave it a chance, you know." Alf got up to leave then.

Jamie looked up at him as if he must be mad.

"I'm doing just fine on my own." Jamie scowled.

"Have it your way, but you know, neither of us would have our place if it weren't for my Great Aunt Edith, who left me the flat." Alf pointed out before he went back to his room.

"Fine. Whatever." Jamie glared at his school mate he'd known since starting elementary. Jamie knew there was a lot to be thankful for. But this is what he got when he had a bad dream. He seriously needed to find a girlfriend.
